Bernd Lohaus

Bernd Lohaus ° 1940 Düsseldorf, Germany – 2010 Antwerp, Belgium

“Throughout his entire oeuvre, from 1963 to 2008, Lohaus continuously drew and painted watercolours of flowers. Initially they are restrained sketches, nothing but fragile lines reminding of his mentor Joseph Beuys. But gradually colour takes over and Lohaus, by way of brusque brush strokes, captures the poetry of the gladiolus or amaryllis...”
“It is more like an in-depth investigation into the essence of a flower and the (im)possibility to approach its 'soul'...” (Frank Herman)
