Jelle Spruyt

Jelle Spruyt

Jelle Spruyt (1979) is a versatile Antwerp-based artist. He primarily works with textiles and
different day-to-day objects, combining textures such as fabric, plastic, thread and wires to create
sculptures , masks and assemblages. He values the concept of recycling. The different objects he
uses, such as plastic cutlery, a garden hose or fishing bobbers, are placed into a completely new
environment. He elevates these objects to a higher function by studying their colors and textures,
disconnecting them from their former context and allowing them to tell their own, new story. This
story may vary from one interpretation to the next.
Spruyt looks for his own representation of society. Using an abstract approach, he shows us the
essence of a certain object or impression, without judgement.
