Julien Meert
(°1983, BE)
Lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.

Julien Meert produces both painting and drawings, collages, videos, and music, under the pseudonym Roger 3000. His multidisciplinary approach combines autobiographical elements with cultural references from the 1980s–90s, analog material with graffiti, film with arcade games. Despite a cheerful palette, his work, which moves between romance, nostalgia, and melancholy, refers to inner conflicts, loneliness, and existential malaise. These intense themes are playfully expressed through motifs that recur in his visual language. They are used in an almost childlike manner and move across the color fields that form the mental landscapes of the artist. His seemingly simple, apparently naive work is at the same time strange, personal, polysemous, and complex.
