Inside Tokyo Jazz Club: a floor-by-floor look at eight days in a former capsule hotel.

Never played the same way twice: eight floors with art to see and buy and a live program of music and performance that changes daily, November 1 to 8, 2026.

TOKYO — [October 22, 2026] — Ahead of its November opening, Tokyo Jazz Club offers a floor-by-floor look at what awaits across the building, November 1–8, 2026, presented during

Art Week Tokyo. Tickets are on sale now via ArtSticker.

A Journey Through Eight Floors

1F: Entrance & Large-Scale Installations Visitors are welcomed by large-scale installations by GILLOCHINDOX☆GILLOCHINDAE (presented by CON_) and an expansive wall mural by Tomonari Nakayashiki (presented by ANTHRACITE), setting the stage for an unexpected journey through the building.

2F: Capsule Art Floor The former hotel’s intimate sleeping capsules are transformed into spaces for artistic discovery, with interactive works inside abandoned pods by Goki Muramoto (Nguyen Wahed) and Jan Eckert (supported by Swissnex) alongside a work by Maurizio Cattelan (Three Star Books), and a special presentation by Arab Bank Switzerland of Transaction Sculpture by 0xfff, an evolving digital artwork in which smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain transfer value through a network, turning the movement of transactions into unique visual compositions.

3F: Vinyl & Whisky Listening Lounge A space to slow down, listen and linger, the third-floor lounge brings together records from VDS (Vinyl Delivery Service), a whisky tasting experience by Sakazuki (Suntory Group, with support from Glimmer DAO) and a special presentation of prints, books, vinyl records and tarot cards by Keiichi Tanaami Å~ Fujio Akatsuka (presented by Shueisha Manga-Art Heritage), alongside solo presentations in kissa booths by Gabriel Orozco (kurimanzutto), Ishikawa Kyuyoh (Shibunkaku) and others.

4F: Quiet Space Offering a moment of calm amid the energy of the building, the fourth floor invites visitors to spend time with a selection of artworks in a more contemplative setting, from acclaimed Brazilian artist Rivane Neuenschwander (Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel) to contemporary ceramicist Kentaro Kawabata (Nonaka-Hill).

5F: Video Art Floor Dedicated to the moving image, the fifth floor features a monumental video presentation by Arthur Jafa (Sadie Coles HQ), inviting visitors into the artist’s powerful visual universe. In the locker room, Paris-based concept store Item Idem presents a selection oflimited-edition artworks (from Barbara Kruger to Yoko Ono).

6F: Live Performance Floor The main stage for a performance program that unfolds across the building, the sixth floor hosts most of the live sets and comes alive against the backdrop of a large-scale mural by Christine Sun Kim (presented by Fran.ois Ghebaly).

7F: Interactive Game Floor Blurring the boundaries between art, play and participation, the seventh floor becomes an immersive game floor of interactive and generative works, including OXO by pioneering artist duo JODI (supported by FARO, smalltokyo Inc. & Mondriaan Fund), with a durational performance of Hardcore Freedom by Esben Weile Kj.r (Andersen’s Contemporary) in the shower stalls.

8F: Sound Bar On the top floor, the Sound Bar offers a place to gather, unwind and connect. It brings together a cocktail bar presented by Bar Phase, a work by Theaster Gates that anchors the room (supported by Horii Shichimeien Co., Ltd.), a site-specific installation by Yoko Terauchi (presented by HAGIWARA PROJECTS), and a light installation by Kwangho Lee (presented by Parcel).

The Performance Program

“The important part of improvisation is: do not repeat!”
— Keiji Haino, interview with Kaput Mag

A building that plays like an instrument.

If the eight floors form an exhibition to move through, the performance program is what sets them in motion. Across the week, concerts, listening sessions, talks, durational works and DJ sets spill through the building — a live set below, records playing above, a conversation unfolding elsewhere — so that the atmosphere shifts as visitors move from floor to floor. Co-curated with Cyrus Goberville and Blank Forms, the program takes jazz less as a genre than as a working principle: improvisation, collectivity, exchange and the refusal to repeat. Artists move between formats and roles throughout the week, with performances designed to overlap, bleed into one another and change the character of the building from day to day. The former hotel’s compact spaces bring audiences unusually close to the artists, while its vertical architecture turns movement through the building into part of the performance itself.

Across eight days, the full program brings together 49 acts. Among them: Standing On The Corner — the New York ensemble led by Gio Escobar, presenting their new album II as a four-piece. Performing on opening night (Nov 1).

Keiji Haino, presented by Blank Forms — hailed as “the poet of noise” and awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at Biennale Musica 2026 this October, the Tokyo master of free improvisation, noise and drone premieres a new electronics set (Nov 3).

Sophye Soliveau — the French harpist and singer makes her Japan debut with INITIATION, performed for harp and voice alone, continuing a line that runs from Dorothy Ashby to Alice Coltrane (Nov 3 & Nov 5).

Arthur Jafa & Theaster Gates — Jafa (Golden Lion, 2019 Venice Biennale) gives a listening session (11/03), and later joins Gates — whose Afro-Mingei practice connects Black American aesthetics with Japanese craft — in conversation (11/05).

Geinoh Yamashirogumi — the roughly hundred-member collective presents a listening session (Nov 8).

About Tokyo Jazz Club
Tokyo Jazz Club is a new temporary cultural event taking place in Tokyo from November 1–8, 2026. Across the eight floors of a former capsule hotel near Jimbōchō, it brings together contemporary art, performance, music, gastronomy, and social encounter in a single site-responsive environment — a hybrid of immersive exhibition, social space, and reimagined marketplace. Conceived as both a cultural and commercial initiative, it is a place where contemporary art is presented, experienced, and sold. Its inaugural edition is presented in partnership with Art Week Tokyo and is made possible through the generous support of Arts Council Tokyo.
