A recent studio visit and conversation with Laurens Legiers form the starting point for this presentation. PLUS-ONE Projects aims to share his work with an audience once again, creating space for new encounters and further development, both within and beyond the context of this presentation.
Laurens Legiers (b. 1994, BE) is a Belgian visual artist based in Antwerp. Drawing on Romantic painting and the quiet beauty of everyday life, he creates dreamlike compositions featuring plants, animals, sailing boats and reflections. His distinctive imagery combines simplified forms, rhythmic repetition and subtle shifts of light and shadow. Through a delicate dabbing technique, he softens visible brushwork, lending his paintings a serene, almost graphic quality.
His solo exhibitions include A Veil of Thoughts at Gallery Vacancy, Shanghai (2021); Dusk till Dawn at PLUS-ONE Gallery, Antwerp (2022); if only at Nicodim, New York (2023); and Squinting to See More Clearly at Nicodim, Los Angeles (2024). Other milestones include participation in Life, Still at Fundación Casa Santa Ana, Panama City (2024), and the publication of Echoes of the Unseen – Works on Paper (MER. Books, 2024).
